ART PROGRAMS include:

  • Art Appreciation Programs
  • Programs based on current art exhibits

FOURTH GRADE DESIGN PROGRAM
The Fourth Grade Design Program includes three in-class presentations plus a Whatcom Museum visit. Call the Museum to see if it is presented in your school district or could be adapted to your district. The program introduces students to the elements of design — line, shape, color, and texture. Students do a variety of activities in class, see posters and slides, and then visit the Museum for more activities and a tour of current art exhibits.

In-class presentations of about one hour each are followed by a program at the Museum of 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Adaptable 3rd to 5th grade.

Tours of Current Exhibits: Focus on works of art that illustrate a unifying concept central to the exhibition.

PROGRAMS BASED ON CURRENT ART EXHIBITS
Art exhibits can be used to interpret art concepts as well as subject matter. Teachers are encouraged to view the exhibits for age appropriateness and communicate their curriculum needs to staff prior to the trip to the Whatcom Museum. The Museum is also pleased to host self-guided tours for those teachers who would rather be their own facilitators. Pre-scheduling is encouraged for class self-guided tours as well.

Call the Museum for details. View the exhibition section of our website for information about current exhibits.

Programs at the Museum may run from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minute long. Programs can usually be adapted to all age and grade levels.
