Whatcom County Historical Society Program: The History of the Bellingham Theater Guild
Thursday 11 February 2010, 07:30pm

Bellingham Theater Guild Historian Monta Wargar will present slides on the history of the Guild. The Bellingham Theatre Guild formed in October 1929 shortly before moving into the Bellingham Normal School's (now WWU) Fine Arts Building on Holly St. It grew during the depression as people needed to be entertained without spending much money. The Guild eventually bought their own building in the 1940s. Not without lean and difficult times, the Guild has survived for 80 years - giving a boost to many spirits and a few careers. Wagar began keeping scrapbooks for the Guild in 1976 and three years later put together its first history - Fifty Golden Years of the Bellingham Theatre Guild, and continues to build on that history. She will bring scrapbooks of photos and memorabilia to the program.
