Allison Giffen, associate professor of English at Western Washington University, speaks about the life and work of  Emily Dickinson and discusses the poet’s influence on contemporary visual artists.  Giffen’s specialty is 19th-century popular women writers. She has published widely and delivered papers on such writers as Ann Bradstreet, Emily Dickinson, Emma Lazarus, Lydia Sigourney, and Martha Finley.
