SKIDDING AND LOADING

Methods for moving logs to mills changed continuously over the years. Early logging usually occurred near water because the logs did not have to be moved far. Horses and oxen were used when operations moved deeper into the forest. As logging operations expanded even further, steam power was employed and eventually replaced with gasoline or diesel machinery having greater efficiency.
