History
The Whatcom Children’s Museum opened to the public on Jan. 7, 1989. Then known as the Children’s Museum Northwest, it became a division of the Whatcom Museum in March 1992. This step enabled the Children’s Museum to continue to expand its exhibits and relationships with other institutions.

In 1995, a full–scale renovation was carried out on it’s building at 121 Prospect St. Tremendous community support was demonstrated through the donation of labor, materials and monies. The Whatcom Children’s Museum building was purchased in 1999 by the Whatcom Museum Society and dedicated as the George S. Graham building on Sept. 30, 2000. The sale of the Whatcom Children’s Museum building is expected to be completed in early 2009, providing needed funding to develop and building exhibits for the new Lightcatcher Building under construction at the corner at Grand Avenue and Flora Street.
