Dec. 1 – Dec. 10: Exploring the Petroglyphs of Southwest Tribes
Ancient humans didn’t have cameras to capture special moments. Instead, they carved pictures on huge rocks to record important encounters and events. These stone drawings are called petroglyphs, and they are found all over the world. Petroglyphs help us learn about the culture of the people who lived there many thousands of years ago. Join us as we explore petroglyphs of ancient southwest tribes and learn about the lifestyle of the people and the animals they encountered. Then create your own petroglyph using watercolors.

Dec. 13 – 23: Desert in Pointillism
In the spirit of our Art of the American West exhibition, delve into the Southwest sun-soaked desert. The desert can be a dusty and vast landscape offers amazing sunsets in reds, oranges, yellows, pinks, and purples. The open sky is ideal for star gazing at night, and the afternoons offer brilliant views of cacti and shrubbery dancing on parched red-orange clays and sands. Create your own desertscape using dots, an art technique known as pointillism, to bring to life the unique landscapes and skyscapes of the desert!

Dec. 27 – 31: Snowflake Stained Glass
When it snows, snowflakes sometimes dance in the air and frost forms on our window panes, creating the look and feel of stained glass. Learn the art of staining glass by making your own stained glass snowflake using tissue paper, liquid starch, and wax paper.
