
Dive into natural dyes in this two-day workshop with katazome expert Fumiyo Imafuku visiting from Hyogo prefecture, Japan. Starting with rice paste making, Professor Imafuku will lead participants through all the steps, including soy sizing. Participants will make their own unique Katazome silk works using natural dyes that enliven this delicate artform. Imafuku will introduce Japanese traditional natural dyes as well. This workshop is a fabulous introduction and companion to the exhibition Katazome Today: Migrations of a Japanese Art. Imafuku’s artwork is featured in the exhibition. Registration is limted to 10 participants and is designed for adults.
