CLEARLY ART : THE BEAUTY OF GLASS

Clearly Art
Clearly Art shares its name with another exhibition that opened at the Whatcom Museum twenty years ago. Titled Clearly Art: Pilchuck's Glass Legacy, it traveled to a dozen museums around the country between 1992 and 1996. Since that important exhibition, the museum's collection has grown to include a number of new glass works, thanks to a gift from Safeco Insurance, a member of the Liberty Mutual Group, and Washington Art Consortium. Clearly Art presents many of these new pieces to the public for the first time.

Glass has the unique ability to reflect, refract, and diffuse light unlike any other medium. It can be diaphanous and delicate, or substantial and weighty. The selection of objects in Clearly Art: The Beauty of Glass highlight the versatility of the medium, and emphasize artists' innovation, experimentation, and mastery of contemporary studio glass.
