Saya Moriyasu received her BFA from the University of Washington, and was awarded residencies at Skowhegan and at Pilchuck Glass School. Of mixed heritage, Moriyasu explores hybrid themes in her art, working with clay, wood, and other materials. Her work is often comprised of many small pieces that collectively form a larger piece. A well known example is the sculpture Sweet Hello, commissioned for the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, that hangs like a chandelier in their Seattle foyer.
