Hilda Morris was best known for her large abstract bronze sculptures, but she also painted. Regardless of medium, she created highly expressive forms evocative of Asian calligraphy. Throughout her illustrious career, Morris focused on themes of universal symbols and mythology. She and her husband, painter Carl Morris, moved to Portland, Oregon in 1941 and rapidly found themselves at the center of the region's creative arts community.
