Yakima Eagle, 1952
Linocut on paper
Gift of Dr. Ulrich & Stella Fritzsche, 1985.2.29

Yakima Eagle was inspired by an image adorning the ceremonial apron of Yakama Chief Colowash, often called Jobe Charley. Helmi met him in 1935 during ceremonials at Seattle's Potlach Village (6th Avenue and Bell Streets). She painted his portrait several times and they remained friends until his death in 1958.
