In the wake of the American bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, Helmi illustrated a story for children, titled , Atom Bomb and Love Beam, which was written by her friend Beulah Taft Godfrey.

The tale revolves around the dichotomy between good and evil with the triumph of love over hate. A total of 45 pages were created, but never published.
