Morrie Alexander (1915—1973) carving a totem pole, 1969. Born on the Lummi Reservation, Alexander learned to woodcarve from his grandfather, Jack Pierre. He became an internationally—renowned master carver whose works were commissioned for Franklin Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy and sought after by collectors around the world.
